Peppermint and Other Memory Enhancing Techniques

These words are often said by students before  the exam especially those whore are lazy to do review study, “Kumain ng kalabasa, matulog ng maaga,  para pag gising bukas as mata-linaw” (eat squash and sleep early to have a sharp eyesight the next morning). Sharp eyesight is intended for copying answers from seatmates.

Some are just cheating during exam and some are really studying hard before so they can have high score. However, the problem arises during the exam, three  or more consecutive long exams within a day. Recalling what you have read and memorized often fail. For many, the hardest subjects are Math, Chemistry, Physics, English and the likes. No one want to have a failing grade so they resort to cheating.peppemint with flowers

According to my experiences and readings, there are several ways to do enhance memory and recall:

1) Have enough rest and sleep. Pushing your mind and body too hard  is not a good idea.

2) Spend a few minutes unwinding after every hour of study. Brain saturation time is approximately two hours. A little rest could mean more knowledge  stored.

3) Do not study  and take exam on empty stomach. Very few things will enter and come out or your brain in this state. Our brains also need energy to perform its function.

4) Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Healthy mind and body means better performance.

5) Avoid sources of stress  and excessive noise during study.  Silent surrounding is preferred.

6) Eat peanuts while studying. My friend said that it is good for the brain. Her mother always buy roasted peanuts  to help her study better.

7) Have a chewing gum during review study and during the actual exam. Chewing gum make you feel relax.  You can work efficiently when you are relaxed.

8) Have a peppermint. According to studies, people that are exposed to peppermint before examination have fewer mistakes and have a quicker reaction time. Peppermint increases oxygen intake by opening lung’s bronchial tubes. You can have peppermint by eating peppermint flavored ice cream, candy and chewing gum or drinking a peppermint tea.
