My son said. This siopao is delicious specially the center filling. Strange! I never heard him praising siopao before. The variant my wife bought must be really well made. Hm! What the filling could be? Hotdog, sausage, tocino, or other sweet meat stuff. Kids these days can’t resist sweets.
I peeked and a bit surprised. The flavor is not what I expected from steamed buns. The old and popular flavors are bola bola and asado. Innovators create new variants but still meat based. Perhaps there are vegetarian versions that I never seen yet.
The siopao flavor is chocolate. Not the variant we see everyday. It is virtually divided into 12 sections and painted white and brown in alternate fashion. The center is gooey dark chocolate. That’s what make my kid impressed.
As for me. The center is the best part. It is bitter but at the same time sweet enough to suit my kids taste buds. Light brown areas are good. The whites are bland and boring. They could have made the whole bun brown, or varying brown shade stripes to retain attractive appearance.
The Chocolate Siopao was bought from Chowking.
