How To Be A Vegetarian – The First Step

The first step in becoming a vegetarian is to know why humans should not eat meat.  Please take time to read the following reasons to convince yourself.

Health Issues
Vegetarianism is considered a healthy, viable diet. The American Dietetic Association and the Dietitians of Canada have found a properly planned vegetarian diet to satisfy the nutritional needs for all stages of life, and large-scale studies have shown that “Mortality from ischemic heart disease was 24% lower in vegetarians than in non-vegetarians

Medicinal Purposes
Prevention is better than a pound of cure. In Western medicine, patients are sometimes advised to adhere to a vegetarian diet.

Food Safety Issues
Vegetarianism reduces E. coli infections. Because E. coli and other food poisoning microorganisms comes mainly from meat and meat products.

Human Physiology
Humans are more anatomically similar to herbivores, with long intestinal tracts and blunt teeth, unlike omnivores and carnivores. Herbivores are plant eating , carnivores are meat eating while omnivore eat both.

Prevention of Diseases
The consumption of meat can cause a transmission of a number of diseases from animals to humans. The connection between infected animal and human illness is well established in the case of salmonella; an estimated one-third to one-half of all chicken meat marketed in the United States is contaminated with salmonella.

Scientists begun to suspect that there is a similar connection between animal meat and human cancer, birth defects, mutations, and many other diseases in humans.

Some animal hormones can be transmitted to human babies thru consumption of dairy milk.

Environmental Issues
Based on the concern that the production of meat and animal products for mass consumption, especially through factory farming, is environmentally unsustainable. It cause water and air pollution forest denudation etc…

Humans are not physically created to eat meat. Here are the comparisons.

Meat-eaters: have claws
Herbivores: no claws
Humans: no claws

Meat-eaters: have no skin pores and perspire through the tongue
Herbivores: perspire through skin pores
Humans: perspire through skin pores

Meat-eaters: have sharp front teeth for tearing, with no flat molar teeth for grinding
Herbivores: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding
Humans: no sharp front teeth, but flat rear molars for grinding

Meat-eaters: have intestinal tract that is only 3 times their body length so that rapidly decaying meat can pass through quickly
Herbivores: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.
Humans: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.

Meat-eaters: have strong hydrochloric acid in stomach to digest meat
Herbivores: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater
Humans: have stomach acid that is 20 times weaker than that of a meat-eater

Meat-eaters: salivary glands in mouth not needed to pre-digest grains and fruits.
Herbivores: well-developed salivary glands which are necessary to pre-digest grains and fruits
Humans: well-developed salivary glands, which are necessary to pre-digest, grains and fruits

Meat-eaters: have acid saliva with no enzyme ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Herbivores: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
Humans: have alkaline saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains
