Mother bought two kilograms of hotdogs. The next Saturday market, she bought two kilograms of longganisa. Next, she bought two kilograms of tocino. Then embutido and then siomai.
So what was the purpose?
She bought two kilograms hotdog for my one week pack lunch. In short, I will eat hotdog on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I gonna tell mom that I never like it anymore on Friday. Then she will buy something else, otherwise I will be eating hotdog again for the next whole week.
Hotdogs and other processed meat products contain preservatives that are not good for our body. However, that is not what I am trying to emphasize. Eating the same kind of food for the whole week result to nakakauta / nakakasawa syndrome.
After having a pack lunch of tocino for five consecutive days. It felt like I never wanted to eat it anymore for the rest of my life. The same is true for hotdog, longganisa and embutido. There are times that I was just giving my viand to my friends and got some of theirs.
Another scenario. She is cooking meal every morning. The dish is for dinner, breakfast and lunch. If she cooked sinigang na baboy, that means that I have to eat pork sinigang for dinner, breakfast and lunch.
I understand that they are doing this to save time, cost and effort. But it is not within the comprehension of toddlers, teens and some stubborn adults.
Menu should be different every meal. In case of leftovers, it can be reinvented to other dish. Sinigang na bangus for lunch can be fried fish for dinner. A tokwa’t baboy for dinner can be fish and tofu for lunch. Meat hotdogs and veggies can be mixed with fried rice.
There are so many ways to reinvent foods. Possibilities are endless. Then you will not hear again the word “nakakasawa / nakakauta”.
