We have been using this plastic for a long time. We always have this inside our glass cabinet. We use it for wrapping fish, meat, shellfish and vegetables before storing it in refrigerator. We also use it as temporary container for small non-food items.
We call it cellophane and it really looks like a cellophane. Its label literally implies that it is a plastic, a high quality plastic bag. I thought plastic and cellophane falls under different categories! Cellophane is paper. Please correct me I am wrong?
Recycling is our advocacy. We should recycle everything that we could. The effort is to prevent the rapid exhaustion of natural resources and prevention of pollution. However, this plastic by Calypso discourages the use of recycled plastics materials.
Talking about “HIGHLY DANGEROUS”. I seems recycled plastics will kick you out of the world of living. I think its not that dangerous but they have a good point. Their plastic is made of 100% percent virgin materials. Though they never mentioned what are those. Does it mean their plastic products are safe?
Recycled plastics, from its name, are made of recycled materials. It is hard to determine what are those. Determining the polymers in recycled plastics is very costly and labor intensive. Plus, the components may changed from time to time according to available materials.
Components might include polymers which release harmful amount of bisphenol A and bis(2-ethyhexyl) phthalate. The bisphenol A was involved on previous baby feeding bottle controversy. I still see baby feeding bottles which might harbor dangers, those with recycling symbol number 7. Bis(2-ethyhexyl) phthalate is released by polyvinyl chloride (pvc).
update as of June 19, 2016:
Low level BPA exposure is safe according to FDA. See “FDA Approved Number 7 Juice Bottle ?“
