The Bread Candy

Again, I bought two bread packs from my uncle, The bread has a small paper label with the name of manufacturer. The bread name is also written underneath but I never look at it. Name does not matter as long as the bread is clean, properly packed and sealed.

The breads I bought are crunchy bread, tinapay na malutong. The first is cloud shape and the second is a long rectangle. We ate the first one, the cloud shape. The other was left untouched.

The next day afternoon. I opened the last pack and munched it one by one. The bread was already half eaten when I noticed the label, it read, “Carmela Home Made Candies”. I never thought bread candy was already invented!

Maybe the label was really intended for candies, the hard and sweet candies. The labels for bread got out of stock so they used it for the purpose. Or the label was inserted by mistake. Hmm… lack of quality control. Enough ground for product rejection and recall.

If this bread was really made as candy then it has one great benefit. It is not sweet and won’t let child’s tooth have cavities.

We are born with sweet tooth. Would toddlers and teens buy it as their candy?

Sweet and hard candies are made purely from sugar with some added flavors. Love for these candies might result to :

1) Excessive calorie intake and obesity.

2) Loss of appetite, disturbance of a healthy balance diet and malnutrition.

3) Formation of tooth cavities and other gum problems.

4) Rise in blood sugar levels.

5) Intake of unwanted preservatives.
